Call back later

The agent ends the call, does the work in the background and calls back with the result.

Some requests take longer than a caller wants to wait: "go through this email and its attachments and call me back when you're done", or simply "call me at 3 pm". With Call back later the agent confirms, ends the call, does the work in the background and calls back with the result.

Paid plans

Call back later needs a paid plan — not in the free trial — and a number that can place calls: the callback comes from the agent's outbound number, and through a HANC number its carrier is paid from the extra balance.

Set it up

  1. Add the tool

Open the agent → Actions → Add Tool → Call & messages → Call back later.

  2. Fill in the settings
    SettingWhat it doesRangeDefault
Tool NameThe tool's name—Call back later
When to offer a callback (optional)A hint for the agent, e.g. offer a callback when an email or document needs checking——
Latest callback, hours aheadHow far ahead the caller may book the callback1–168 hours24
Dial attemptsHow many times to call back if nobody answers; 1 = call once1–53
Minutes between attemptsThe pause before the next attempt1–12010
Callback numberWho to call back when the conversation has no phone number — a call from the website widget. Empty: no callbacks from the web——
Owner emailWhere the agent may send the result when the owner asks for it——
  3. Give the agent something to work with

In the background the agent uses the tools you gave it — mail, calendar, Drive and the rest. Without them it can only call back at the agreed time.

Who gets the callback

  • On a phone call the agent calls back the number that called.
  • On a web call there is no such number: the agent calls the fixed Callback number — yours — or offers no callback when the field is empty.

What the agent may do in the background

It can read mail and prepare reply drafts, but it sends nothing except a summary to the fixed Owner email. A draft goes out only after a clear "yes" from the caller during the callback.

  • At most 2 callbacks per call.
  • Follow the callbacks under Triggers → Recent runs.

Use cases

  • "Read this email and call me back" — the owner calls their own assistant agent, the agent goes through the mail and calls back with a summary and a draft reply.
  • "Call me at 3 pm" — the agent books the callback and calls back on time.
  • A web visitor asks for a call — with a Callback number set, the request reaches you as a phone call.

Common problems

ProblemWhat to check
No callback arrivesThe agent's number must be able to call out; check Triggers → Recent runs for the attempt and its result
The agent never offers itAdd a hint in When to offer a callback
Web callers get no callbackFill in the Callback number
  • Triggers — background work started by events
  • Email — the mail tools the agent works with
